Uf the government facilities for NRIs !

Chief Ministers of many State Governments of India are in the habit of announcing one or the other scheme for citizens of their States working abroad as NRIs, but their governments seldom care to follow them up with action. Even bare details about the schemes are not available in their websites and hardly any officer / office is there to guide you. The other day, Punjab CM said, they are creating a cell to help brides duped by NRIs and  facilitation centres would come about in the State for helping NRIs in setting up industries, investing, etc. The Goan CM talked of creating a fund to help NRIs in distress. Nothing has been heard of these schemes after the announcements. Gujarat's sole aim seems to get investment and industries - no human activity exists beyond that?

The Central Government's Ministries for Overseas Indian Affairs and External Affairs, however, seem to be more serious. Their sites give detailed info on various matters including admissions of NRI children and scholarships for them, taxation, investment, etc. Not in all countries, but some Indian consulates do courteously deal with Indians and lend ears to their queries and problems. Our NRI and foreign visiting friends share instances of unconcern and rudeness shown to them by clerks in embassies. We feel, that happens only as much as it happens within India.
